OddsMarket processes your personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). This page explains what we collect, why, and your rights over it.
1. What we collect
- Account details: name, phone number, email address, password (stored hashed, never in plain text).
- Tipster application details: handle, sport, bio, if you apply to become a tipster.
- Transaction data: voucher redemptions, subscription history, wallet balance and ledger entries.
- Usage data: pages viewed, picks followed, delivery channel preferences (WhatsApp/SMS/Telegram/email).
2. Why we collect it
- To create and secure your account, and let you log in.
- To process voucher redemptions and subscription payments.
- To deliver picks and OddsMarket AI digests through your chosen channel.
- To review tipster applications and maintain accurate leaderboard statistics.
- To respond to support requests and investigate reports made about tipsters.
3. Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary to operate the platform:
- Airtime voucher redemption providers, to process wallet top-ups.
- Messaging providers (e.g. WhatsApp Business API, SMS gateways), to deliver picks you've subscribed to.
- Where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of OddsMarket users.
4. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- Ask us to delete your account and associated personal information, subject to what we're legally required to retain (e.g. transaction records).
- Object to certain processing, such as marketing communications.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may complain to South Africa's Information Regulator.
5. Data retention
We keep account and transaction data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period after closure to meet legal, tax, and dispute-resolution obligations.
6. Security
Passwords are hashed, not stored in plain text. Access to personal information is restricted to what's needed to operate the platform. No system is perfectly secure, and we continue to invest in protecting your data as OddsMarket grows.
